In recent years Carnegie has been a suburb full of cranes and construction – the apartment blocks came first, followed in 2016 by the replacement of the level crossing by an elevated rail viaduct dubbed ‘Skyrail’.
Artist’s impressions have long been used by the government as a way to sell major projects to the public, but in 2016 we have seen this tool adopted by a new user – community groups opposed to the same projects.
Since plans were released easier this year for the construction of elevated ‘skyrail’ along the Dandenong line, there been plenty of debate as to the the best way to grade separate road and rail. I’ve previous written about how Melbourne’s unsightly trenched railway lines – but what about some more aesthetically pleasing examples?
